2012 FASA RUNWAY SHOW
FASHION EXTRAVAGANZA AROUND THE WORLD
Basic Guidelines for Entries
The FASA Runway show features entries of ART to WEAR from both FASA members and non-members. Non-members will be charged a $5 fee per item submitted for juried consideration. Artists may submit a total of 10 items for consideration. A collaboration will count as 1 entry.
This year runway entries will be juried by Melinda Adams, Associate Professor of Fashion Management, University of the Incarnate Word. She has shared with us what she looks for in reviewing entries. The Runway committee has put together some tips to help you meet her selection criteria and to help with deciding what to create for the show.
Our theme is International Fashion and we are asking each artist to help decide which of the Six Specific Categories (scenes) best fits their entry. Upon completing your registration form select from one of these categories: ASIA, AFRICA, LATIN AMERICA, TROPICAL ISLANDS, EUROPEAN, and SCANDINAVIA (intended to include winter wear – felted wools, & knitted items). *
An ART to WEAR garment is an individually designed piece of hand-made clothing which reflects artistic expression and creativity. Depending on artists creativity and skills they may choose to use purchased finished fabrics and alter them into a unique garment OR they may dye and/or paint virgin fabric, or create fabric by weaving, knitting, crocheting ,or felting into a wearable art garment.
If a commercially purchased pattern is chosen as the main basis of the garment design, then the use of fiber art/design techniques, or pattern adaptations would be a means to make the garment into an ART to WEAR item.
*If your basic garment is readymade, such as a blank purchased from Dharma, a denim jacket or an item from a thrift store, it must be enhanced in such a manner as to create a new design of wearable art with the fiber techniques noted. Remember, the finished product should be an INDIVIDUALIZED piece of art! Have fun, be creative and step outside of the box into the 2012 Fashion Extravaganza Around the World!
Quality of construction and Quality of the technique(s)
Is it wearable? Are techniques incorporated as part of the design or are they an afterthought?
Is the item in keeping with the theme of the show: (ART to WEAR in an INTERNATIONALTHEME) ?
These terms are posted under "Fiber Terms/Techniques" on the pop-out menu under "Runway Show 2012" on the menu bar on the left.

CHALLENGE GARMENT
*The challenge garment is limited to entries from only FASA members. It is intended to show the creativity of FASA members using one design but endless possibilities of fiber art techniques to individualize the cape.
The cape will be incorporated into the international scenes based on the garment and its design. The challenge is a circular or oval shaped cape. You may construct it any way you like as long as the completed garment has either a circular or oval shape.
A basic pattern is available to follow for the circle cape which can be made from 45”, 54” or 60” fabric. This pattern requires minimal sewing for the armholes; it is even possible to construct without any sewing depending on the type of fabric chosen.
See Challenge Garment instructions on the pop-out menu under "Runway Show 2012" on the left menu bar.
